Still no word about Lulu's American release. Hopefully it will get picked up soon. Barring this film, there hasn't been much else going on in the world of Auster. He is still scheduled to deliver a novella to Holt before next summer, but I haven't heard anything definite about it yet. You can purchase the script in book form, though, by using the link on my bibliography page.
In the meantime, I have finally gotten around to converting a very thorough thesis that compares Auster and Aristotle. You can read it, footnotes and all, in the Articles section.
I appreciate everyone who has purchased books using the Amazon links on these pages. I am still moving forward with plans to add a new section that will allow you to purchase books by other authors. Stay tuned for details.

Lulu on the Bridge still hasn't been picked up by an American distributor, but a Norwegian fan saw the film when it was released in that country. Here are his comments:
Lulu had world premiere in Norway last friday, and we were there, on the first show.
In Norway, Lulu has received mixed critics, most of them giving four out of six (on the dice). Personally, I have to agree with them, with a plus; closer to five than four. It was a very dark and sort of sentimental film, with very good performances from Keitel and Sorvino (as usual, particularly Keitel). The general sentiment during the film was what I liked best. I found myself constantly intrigued by the fact that romance and mystique can be combined in that way. The filming was great, creating that particular dark state of mind that Izzy himself was in. For me, the soundtrack has to be bought. Very good music throughout the film. Overall, Auster has done a good job as a first-time solitary director, but still I feel he can do better in the future. I guess time will show! Lulu is defenitely worth the ticket, and then some.
Hopefully it will be released in the U.S. soon. If anyone else has any comments about it, I would love to post them here. Send them to stillman@bluecricket.com.

I am pleased to report that there have already been several sales as a result of people following the links to Amazon from my page; thanks to each and every one of you who used my links to buy Auster's books and other books from Amazon. I am still intent on adding a new section to my site that will offer many books to choose from, including my personal favorites, Pulitzer Prize winners, Booker Prize winners, and the current NY Times Bestseller list. Hopefully between Stillman's Maze and this new site I will be able to generate the monthly revenue I need to have this site hosted on a commercial server. Remember, I get revenues off of any books you order by following one of my links, even if it's not the book that I have directly linked, so if you are planning on making any Amazon purchases at all, I would appreciate you following one of the links on my site so that a percentage of the sale will go to support this site.
Not much is happening in the world of Auster. Lulu's release date still hasn't been announced, but even though it kicked off this year's Cannes Film Festival it got less than stellar reviews. I'd still like to see it and make my own judgement, however. I'll let you know when I find out any more about it.

In order to try and make this site self-sustaining, I have decided to become an Amazon.com Associate and sell Auster's books through this site. You will find purchasing links next to the available books on the bibliography page and on any pages that have been set up for individual books. If you would like to know more about why I made this decision and what it means for Stillman's Maze to be an Amazon Associate, please go the information page I have set up.

There is also a new page that has a lot of information about Lulu on the Bridge, Auster's new film that premiered at the Cannes film festival this year. I will be adding links to reviews, etc., on this page when the film is released, so keep checking back. In the meantime, this page features a film sysnopsis and notes about the production (including some quotes from Auster) culled from the press kit. You may also reserve your copy of the book version with Amazon.com from this page. |

I haven't heard much about Auster recently. I guess he is still filming his movie, but he should be done soonfromwhat I understand, it is supposed to debut at Cannes this year. However, I recently received an email from a man in Germany who is writing a Ph.D. thesis on Auster's works and has set up a site about the structure and purpose of his thesis. The site also contains a couple of links, like ones to sites about Smoke and Lulu on the Bridge. It is well worth checking out.
